Kuala Lumpur is the capital as well as the largest city in Malaysia. Kuala Lumpur, or KL as it is fondly known, is located in a valley enclosed by jagged hills, on the west coast of the Peninsular Malaysia. Occupying an area of about 250 square kilometers, Kuala Lumpur is an enclave in Selangor – a state of Malaysia, and is one among the three Malaysian Federal Territories, others being Putrajaya and Labuan.

A mining settlement during the late 1800s, Kuala Lumpur has now become a bustling metropolis, and serves not only as the capital but also the cultural as well as legislative center, since it is the seat of the parliament of the country. In addition, the city leads the country’s fast-paced growth in sectors such as finance and banking, trade and commerce, manufacturing, transportation, tourism, and information technology.

When comes to attractions, Kuala Lumpur has aplenty to offer. Among which, not to miss ten attractions in the city are:

Merdeka Square – Also known as Dataran Merdeka or Independence Square, Merdeka Square stands as the old colonial core of the city. The focal point of Merdeka Square is the flagpole of 328ft, which is the tallest of its kind in the world. It is also the place where the Malayan flag was hoisted for the first time during the midnight on August 31, 1957 when Malaysia attained independence. Highlights in Merdeka Square also include the National History Museum, Royal Selangor Club, and Sultan Abdul Samad Building, reflecting Moorish architectural style.

Petronas Towers – Probably, the greatest among the attractions of the city is the Petronas Twin Tower, which is truly a modern architectural splendor. They are one of the tallest in the world, and consist of 88 floors. Both the towers are joined at its 41st and 42nd floor by a sky bridge. Entry to the tower is free. Further, at the foot of this 452 meters tall building is Suria KLCC, a trendy shopping mall selling branded items, the Malaysian Philharmonic Orchestra, and the Petrosains Discovery Center.

Batu Caves – Situated about 12 km north of the city, Batu Caves are a must-see attraction. A sacred spot for Hindus – Batu Caves include three main caves, apart from several small caves. Of the caves here, the biggest as well as the most popular is the Cathedral Cave or Temple Cave, which as the name suggests, has a myriad of shrines, Sri Subramania Swamy Temple being the significant. Further, the area is thronged by a large number of devotees during the annual event, Thaipusam, which falls in every January.

Kuala Lumpur Railway Station – Erected in 1910, Kuala Lumpur is a magnificent Moorish-style building built during the period of British rule. Its minarets, arches, and spires are truly incredible.

Masjid Jamek – Otherwise known as Friday Mosque, Masjid Jamek is a historic structure located at the confluence of the Sungei Klang and the Sungei Gombak rivers. Designed by Arthur Benison Hubback and opened in 1909 – it is a tranquil area set among shady palm trees.

Masjid Negara – Masjid Negara or National Mosque is the largest mosque in South-east Asia. Completed in 1965, the main prayer hall within the mosque can accommodate up to 10000 people. The centerpiece of the mosque is the splendid 18-point dome resembling a star. Each of the points represents 13 states of the country as well as the five pillars of the Islam.

Chinatown – A stroll along the vibrant area of Chinatown would be a great experience, and allows you to come through a variety of temples, vendors selling traditional medicines, and several pet shops.

Taman Negara – A visit to the city would not be complete without taking a tour to Taman Negara or National Park, boasting of some of the world’s oldest rainforest. The area is especially noted for its diverse flora and fauna. A great way to explore the area via a trekking along the trails found here. Apart from this, the park also has excellent options for activities like climbing, river rafting, fishing, and bird watching. Also, a unique thing is that some of the areas within the Taman Negara are inhabited by nomadic Orang Asli people.

Avril Lavigne Goes Clubbing With Gal Pal Paris and Greasy Bear

“Complicated” and “Sk8ter Boi” punk rocker Avril Lavigne likes to party, especially with gal pal Paris Hilton and oil heir Brandon “Greasy Bear” Davis. Lately, she’s been seen drinking and partying in Hollywood with the heir and heiress. Avril Lavigne had dinner with Brandon Davis in the ritzy Pace restaurant, complete with a cool chauffeured SUV ride and after dinner drinks at the swanky CoCo DeVille. It seems that this punk rock chick has discovered the beauty of the night life.

Just a few days ago, Avril Lavigne was seen painting the town red with none other than “Simple Life” star, Paris Hilton. At Bardot, the two gal pals made a striking combination of contrasts – Paris Hilton’s revealing black tank and leather jacket with red miniskirt combination beside Avril Lavigne’s conservative heart-patterned zip-up hoodie with charcoal jeans and black shoes. Strangely enough, just a few months ago Avril Lavigne was banned in Malaysia due to her “too sexy” image. One Malaysian official even said that, “It is considered too sexy for us. … It’s not good for viewers in Malaysia.  We don’t want our people, our teenagers, influenced by their performance. We want clean artists, artists that are good role models.”

Some have speculated that Paris Hilton may be asking for some advice for her next studio album, which is said to be heavily influenced by the work of dance diva Kylie Minogue. The dance-inspired album is rumored to be the next project of music producer Mike Green, whose recent work includes Paramore’s album. It hasn’t been confirmed which label will be releasing the new album of Paris or when it will hit stores later on.

Although Paris Hilton’s long-time BFF Nicole Ritchie and her hubby Joel Madden (Benji Madden’s brother) were at the same club, Paris chose to leave with Avril. Perhaps this new project of Paris is a result of her recent split with boyfriend Benji Madden. Paris Hilton was recently on the Ryan Seacrest show, where she said, “He’s an incredible person. We’ll always be very close. We’ll see what happens in the future. I’m still in love with him.”

Spanish Connection in Singapore Bar and Restaurant Franchise Opportunities

Tapas: uniquely Spanish dishes from the Spanish word ‘tapar’ which means to ‘cover’ in Spanish, thought to come about as a result of Innkeepers in bygone days, covering glasses of wine with small plates of cheese or sausage, to stop flies and mosquitoes flying in?

Others say that tapas began to be served at the entrance to Inns, to satisfy the hunger of travellers who would halt briefly on their journeys, but had no time to get down from their horses or carriages even for a bite to eat and a glass of wine: hence, a small snack (the tapar ,or ‘cover’) was passed to them on top of the wine for a quick bite and drink!

Whatever the reason for the ‘tapar’ I promised myself that one day I would open a Restaurant (or two or three), specialising in this wonderful and uniquely Spanish way, of ‘fun dining’ in sharing these wonderfully simply but incredibly tasty dishes, with family and friends.

Unlike a lot of British citizens, I did not discover Spain until later in life, when I was asked (some twenty years ago), to carry out some work for Shell España as a Consultant in the Offshore Oil & Gas business.

At that time we were based in San Carlos de la Rapita, a beautiful area in the Ebro Delta, Catalunya, where absolutely no-one spoke any English (mainly Catalan) , but where I could get by learning the basics of Castilian Spanish (also useful everywhere else in Spain)!

My travels with Shell took me to the North of Spain (Santander, Gijon…) and to Madrid, where, after this short amount of experience in Spain, I realised what I might have been missing in life!

From that moment on, I immersed myself into the culture of the Spanish, the food, the fiestas, the excitement, the colour, the music, the dance, I embraced it all with a great deal of enthusiasm, and have done ever since.

As a keen amateur cook, I have always tried my hand at the local dishes wherever I had lived, but traditional Spanish dishes blew me away and I absolutely loved the idea of the Tapa, where small tasty dishes can be shared with family and friends; never feeling ‘full’ always feeling as if you need another bite; such an incredible variety of seafood, meats, chorizos (spicy Spanish Sausage), shellfish, vegetables……..

Hence, many years later and with an apartment in my favourite City of Barcelona, having travelled throughout Spain and with a great deal more business experience; the first ‘Tapas Tree’ business investments emerged at Clark Quay, Singapore, some four years ago.

Through personal contacts: identifying the correct site for our first restaurant, researching many restaurants overseas for the chefs who could cook my favourite dishes in their truly authentic fashion, designers who could help me simulate the ‘Spanish feel’ in my restaurants, the selection of products from Spain, wines, etc…….

This gave birth to The Tapas Tree Group business franchise: now with three Singapore restaurants business investments of various size and location operating profitably and looking towards more Singapore franchise opportunities and franchise opportunities overseas; we are by far the most original in South East Asia, for our food, our ambience and our designs, from our hand-made mosaic tables, our eye for getting the Spanish ‘look’ through the use of terracotta, wrought iron and red brick, to the personal photographs I have on display; not forgetting of course the images of one of Spain’s most prolific and in-demand Flamenco Dance Photographers, Ana Palma! Our Spanish customers call us, ‘That little bit of Spain, in South East Asia’, a title that I am immensely proud of!

Astreem Corporation is the franchise consultants for The Tapas Tree Group who are the franchise opportunities partner for businesses that are looking for franchise business opportunities in the Singapore bar and restaurant franchise market of interest. Astreem is constantly on the lookout for franchise opportunities for The Tapas Tree regionally and internationally.

The Merdeka Square, also know as the Dataran Merdeka is situated in Malaysia in its capital city, which is Kuala Lumpur. On the opposite side of it is located the Sultan Abdul Samad Building. The Union Jack Flag was lowered and the Malaysian flag was hoisted at the Merdeka Square of the Dataran Merdeka as it is know, when Malaysia gained its independence from the British. The time was midnight, the date August 31st, the year 1957; this was if one might say the birthplace of the modern day independent state of Malaysia. From that historic first Independence Day the Merdeka Square has been the site for countless more Independence Day celebrations. For successive years the National Day Parade of Malyasia which is called the Hari Mereka Parade has been held here at the Merdeka Square.

The Merdeka Square when translated into English means Independence Square. The site was previously home to the cricket green of the then Selangor Club. Hence the site was previously called the Selangor Club Padang, though at present the Selangor Club is called Royal Selangor Club. The Independence Square was formally opened in the year 1990 on the 1st of January, in collaboration to mark the Visit Malaysia Year 1990.

In the surrounding areas one can find Royal Selangor Club Complex, the Sultan Abdul Samad Building, St. Mary’s Anglican Cathedral, the Memorial Library and the national History Museum.

Spending some time at a Kuala Lumpur hotel would be recommended. A Kuala Lumpur hotel accommodation will help one to see much of the city of Kuala Lumpur. With a Kuala Lumpur accommodation one can space out one’s travels and see many places of interest.
