A guide to best beaches in the world

Life’s a beach! But which one is best? There are few more beautiful sites than the coast. I grew up in a small seaside town in the the North East of England, maybe that’s what started the obsession. I loved it in Winter when there were no tourists, the waves were strong and the only other people braving the harsh wind were dog walkers and surfers. I never knew how much I loved it until I moved to the city.

However, I would swap that scene any day to be on a tropical beach. I’ve traveled round South East Asia several times, here are a few of my favourites…

+ Thailand has amazing beaches, the islands on the East coast are soft white sand and coconut palms. If you ever go I would recommend a tiny spot on Koh Pha Ngan called Haad Son, the most laid back place I’ve ever known, ten days flew before I knew it I had a flight to catch.

On the West coast the beaches are much more dramatic, with huge lime stone cliffs and amazing corals. My favourite place to be here is Koh Phi Phi, it’s beauty beyond belief with the warmest people-I hold it very dear to my heart.

Heading down a bit further to Malaysia I would recommend Tioman Island, again, unspoilt and great for nature lovers.

Over in Bali the beaches are packed and dirty, but head to the next island, Lombok and you find some diamonds in the rough! There are three small islands off the coast of Lombok, known as the Gilli Islands. They can be difficult to get to when traveling independently but are well worth the hassle! The only downside in this area is damage to coral – it was badly bleached by the el nino weather occurrence and is continuously damaged by harsh fishing practices.

Of course there are many more beautiful beaches out there – but this article could soon turn into a checklist, So let me know your favourite and I’ll add it to my ‘to do’ list!
